Uploaded May 19, 2017Made possible through a state grant, 53 Moreland Staff Members & a Board Member attended the Museum of Tolerance, the educational arm of the Simon Weisenthal Center, an internationally renowned Jewish Human Rights organization. The only museum of its kind in the world, The Museum of Tolerance is dedicated to challenging visitors to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts. The focus is to confront all forms of prejudice and discrimination in our world today.

Of the many amazing student programs at Baker, the nomination highlighted that their school community practices and models PBIS (Positive Behavior Incentive System) by focusing on a positive school culture rather than a punitive structure, Principal Chris Barbara writes a weekly “Just Be Nice” message to help strengthen UPstander skills in
students, and students participate in leadership opportunities from a young age that include second grade “Big
Buddies” to kindergarten students, Special Day Class (SDC) “Big Buddies” to younger SDC students and junior yard
duties who learn peaceful conflict resolution skills. In addition, Baker’s ABC (Asset Building Champion) Reading
program includes 28 adult volunteers reading to 94% of the students annually for almost 12 years. ABC Reading is
Project Cornerstone’s parent engagement program that trains adult volunteers to read a specially selected book and lead related activities in the classroom to help students and school communities build a common language about
student respect and behavior expectations.
The Moreland School District is proud to announce that eighth grade student, Shreyass Prem Sankar, will represent Moreland Middle School and the Moreland School District in the Scripps Spelling Bee Finals this Saturday, March 18, 2017. Channel 5 KPIX came out to record students and staff wishing him well!
Uploaded Mar 14, 2017On August 12, 2016, over 70 Moreland School District staff members, as well as Superintendent Bob Bravo of CUHSD, participated in a poverty simulation facilitated by Step Up Silicon Valley. All participants were given an identity as they “walked a mile” trying to survive one month as a family member or individual living in poverty in Silicon Valley. The goal of the event is to shine a spotlight on humanity: the quality that makes us human, such as the ability to love, have compassion or be creative.

The vision addressed various developmental and social needs of students focusing on homework assistance, a balance between structured activities and play, increased enrichment, and positive discipline through targeted professional development. The results transformed after-school care into an exemplary, enriching program.

Students listened to a concert, performed along side the musicians and separated into instrumental groups to get one on one tips from industry experts.
