Two Country Lane students, five Easterbrook Discovery School students, one Latimer School, and five Moreland Middle School students were chosen out of almost 50,000 applicants from across the country to participate in MathCON, a prestigious national academic competition hosted by Concept Schools in Chicago later this month.

Melissa Rhyne, a Payne Elementary School parent, has been selected as the Junior League of San Jose’s Crystal Bowl Award Winner, in the category of Leadership. Melissa was nominated by the Moreland School District for her work as the President of the Moreland Education Foundation (MEF).

Moreland Middle School 6th grade student Tanish Bobde, was honored at the City of San Jose City Council Meeting on February 26, 2019 as one of 20 finalists who submitted short poems through this “Litter-ature” competition focusing on litter awareness, a collaboration between the City of San Jose’s Environmental Services Department and Office of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program.

Anderson Elementary School is one of 51 schools in the Bay Area named Top Bay Area Public School for Underserved Students from Innovate Public Schools, a nonprofit organization.

Fourth grade Easterbrook Discovery Student, Natalie Eng, has been awarded Moreland School District’s 2019 Future Chef Competition winner.

Three Moreland teams have successfully qualified for the Destination Imagination state competition on April 6, 2019 in Clovis, California. Of the 46 teams that competed in the Regional Tournament on March 2, 2019, teams representing Latimer and Payne Elementary Schools placed high enough to earn a spot in this S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) competition.

The Moreland School District announced its partnership with the Santa Clara County Library District and the San Jose Public Libraries to ensure that each Moreland student receives a library card and online access to all their digital resources. With a common goal of ensuring Moreland students are lifelong learners, this card will connect students to immediate online resources, as well as access to public branch libraries located in close proximity to Moreland schools.

A group of Baker Elementary School students organized a disaster relief fundraiser with the theme of “Putting Lives Back Together” after learning about the loss of lives and property as a result of several natural disasters in 2018.

Claire Kampmeier, 8th grade student at Moreland Middle School, has been selected for the 2019 Project Cornerstone Asset Champions Award in the Positive Peer Influence category. The annual Asset Champions Award recognizes schools and individual efforts to make the community a better place for young people to live and grow.

Sriram Chatrathi was selected for a provisional appointment to Moreland’s Board of Trustees at a Special Board Meeting on January 23, 2019. Sriram is replacing Robert Varich, who was elected to the Campbell Union High School District’s Board in the November 2018 election.
