Nine Moreland students placed at the MathCon National Finals held at the University of Illinois in Chicago, April 22, 2017. Among the top 1% of students chosen to advance from the Regional competition in March, only the top scores received an Honorable Mention or higher.

Moreland Middle School 8th grade student Daiki Nakajima was selected as a 2017 DownBeat Student Music Awards (SMA) winner, a national competition open to junior high, high school, university and solo entries. Daiki has received the “Junior High School Outstanding Performance” for his Tenor Saxophone recording.

Payne Elementary School hosted a portion of the Santa Clara County Office of Education STEAM Symposium last Friday, April 21, 2017. As part of a multi-day event highlighting best practices, partnerships, and networks supporting imagination, innovation, and integration across the County, Payne was a featured stop for teachers and administrators wanting to learn more about how to create a successful STEAM program on a budget.

Registration for the 2017/2018 school year began Wednesday, March 1, 2017. New students now have the option to register online. Requests to transfer to a school outside of your neighborhood school (Intra-District Transfer Request) is accepted only through the month of March. Late forms for Transfer Requests will not be accepted.

Moreland Middle School's (MMS) Symphonic Band & Orchestra earned a “Unanimous Superior” rating at the California Music Educator’s Association (CMEA) Bay Section South Band & Orchestra Festival at Santa Teresa High School on Friday, March 31, 2017.

Easterbrook Discovery Middle School (EDMS) Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band each placed first in their categories at the Music in the Parks Festival on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

Eight Moreland staff members have completed the Reading Recovery Teacher Program at St. Mary’s College, Kalmanovitz School of Education (KSOE) this spring. The KSOE is one of 17 Reading Recovery University Training Centers in the country.

Latimer School has been awarded a $5,000 competitive grant through Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and SunPower Corporation. PLTW is one of the leading providers of STEM education curriculum programs in middle schools across the country.

Two Moreland Middle School students placed first and second place in the Santa Clara County Optimist Oratorical Contest. As the only two middle school students competing against all high school students, 8th graders Ishaan Iyer (1st place) and Rujula Rao (2nd place) qualified for the state finals on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Sacramento.

Moreland School District announced the installation of Buddy Benches at Anderson & Baker Elementary Schools. The Buddy Bench is a bench designed to “eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground.” (buddybench.org).
