Two Moreland parents and a former Moreland student were honored with the prestigious Simpson-Silva Award by the San Jose Police Department at an awards ceremony on September 12, 2024.

EDS parent Nadia Bougachouch, Baker parent Milko Todorv and former Baker and MMS student Janelle Schumacher were among those honored for their courage and quick action to save the life of a 3-year-old drowning victim at a South Bay cabana swim club.

At the October 18 Board meeting, Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Clover Codd recognized the heroes as well. Mr. Todorv and Ms. Schumacher were unable to attend. Janelle's mother, Julie Schumacher, is a teacher at Latimer and accepted the certificate on Janelle's behalf.
