Perimeter Fencing Project

MMS Fence
Perimeter fencing installed at all Moreland schools will be similar to that at Moreland Middle School (above) and Easterbrook Discovery School (below).

SAN JOSE, CA, May 20, 2024: The Moreland School District Board of Trustees recently approved a new district-wide fencing project to enhance the safety and security of Moreland students and staff.

The project includes new picket-style perimeter fencing at all seven Moreland School District school sites: Anderson, Baker, Country Lane, and Payne Elementary Schools; Easterbrook Discovery and Latimer Schools; and Moreland Middle School. The fence will allow for a single entrance for all visitors at each site’s main office during school hours.

The construction will begin on June 10 and occur two schools at a time.

Latimer School will also get a new arch entry monument to match the existing structures at Baker and Payne.

"We are beyond grateful to the community for investing in the safety and security of our students and staff," said Superintendent Dr. Clover Codd. “We remain dedicated to responsibly managing the resources entrusted to us as we move forward with these important upgrades.”

The safety enhancement project is fully funded from Measure M, a facilities and construction bond measure that was passed in March 2020 by Santa Clara County voters. The funds are allocated for needed facilities repairs, upgrades for safety and security systems and improvements to all seven Moreland School District school sites.

August 13, 2024 Update
The Moreland School District is nearing completion on the first phase of the perimeter fencing project to further enhance safety and security for students and staff at all school campuses.

Construction on the first phase of the project began June 10, prioritizing the front entrance and student drop-off areas during summer break. Fence panels are being installed in all front entrances and finishing touches on new gates and hardware are set to be completed by the end of August. Construction will take a break for the first day of school on Wednesday, August 14, to best serve students, families and staff at the beginning of the school year.

Construction crews will continue to install the remaining perimeter fencing and gates around each site. The entire project will be completed by December 2024. In the meantime, the contractor has been directed to ensure there is continuous temporary fencing to provide a secure perimeter for students. The contractor will also be using the area behind the Little League field at EDS as the main staging area for equipment, now that school is resuming. Construction is also underway at Latimer School for a new arch entry monument to match the existing structures at Baker and Payne.
