San Jose, May 6, 2022: Moreland School District announced that fifth grade Anderson Elementary School Student, Nemi M., has been selected as the Moreland School District’s Future Chef Competition winner. The competition took place on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, in the Moreland Middle School cafeteria.
After more than 109 3rd - 5th-grade students submitted recipes, finalists were selected to represent each elementary and K-8 school. The category this year was “Healthy After School Snack,” and students were judged on originality, health attributes, ease of preparation, kid appeal, plate presentation, use of featured ingredients, and taste.
Nemi’s winning recipe was Pizza Crust Squares, a recipe she created with turkey pepperoni and turkey sausage. As the District winner, Nemi also won a Fitbit, kitchen cookware, mixing bowl/measuring set, cutting boards, hot pads, and a children’s cookbook.
Moreland has had several students represent the Moreland School District as Regional Winners, including past Future Chef winners, Caden Thompson from Latimer and Elle Seguin from Payne. The District is incredibly proud of all school finalists and Future Chef participants:

- 3rd place winner: Meghna M., Country Lane, 5th grade (Banana Oatmeal Cookies). Prize: George Foreman Grill
- Avery R., Baker Elementary School, 5th grade (Good for You Green Smoothie)
- Ivy K., Easterbrook Discovery School, 5th grade (Ivy’s Falafel & Strawberry Swirl)
- Delila G., Payne Elementary School, 5th grade (Tostadas Con Beans)
Future Chef is a national cooking competition sponsored by Sodexo Food Services that begins at the school district level. In past years, winners have the opportunity to advance to Regional and National levels, competing with students from all over the country. Previous Future Chef competitions have focused on “Fiesta Fit”, “Healthy Breakfast Challenge”, and “Asian Fusion” recipes.
