San Jose, February 3, 2022: Four Easterbrook Discovery School (EDS) students and five Moreland Middle School (MMS) students have auditioned and been selected to be musicians in the California All-State Music Educators Association (CASMEC) All-State Honor Group.  These Moreland students will be performing at the annual CASMEC Convention in Fresno, February 17 - 20, 2022.  Selected student musicians are:

• Liam Chesser, 8th grade, EDS (String Orchestra)
• Yongrong (Jerry) Chen, 8th grade, EDS (Concert Band)
• Yijin Chong, 8th grade, MMS (Concert Band)
• Maren Johnson, 7th grade, EDS (Jazz Band)
• Chloe Lee, 8th grade, MMS (String Orchestra)
• Hannah Lee, 8th grade, MMS (String Orchestra)
• Luca Loftus, 8th grade, MMS (Jazz Band)
• Olivia Park, 8th grade, MMS (Symphonic Band)
• Eli Sarte, 7th grade, EDS (Jazz Band)

Competing against over 1,500 middle school student musicians from throughout California, students uploaded recordings of required scales, etudes, and excerpts from pieces. Jazz Band students also had to demonstrate their improvisational abilities. 

Thanks to the exemplary talents of Moreland students and teachers, Moreland has received numerous music awards and honors while competing in festivals and concerts throughout the state.  Moreland is incredibly fortunate to have such talented teacher leadership with Rebecca Ayer, Nils Johnson, John Rush, Emily Chiet, and Gretchen Miescke.  

The Moreland Education Foundation (MEF) supports the music program within the Moreland School District, including the funding of new instruments each year, so that students have the opportunity to play instruments that they may not be able to afford.   MEF and it’s subcommittee, Music in Moreland, consists of parents and community members dedicated to sustaining Moreland’s award-winning music program for all Moreland music students.
